The annual conference of Training Center for Interpreters of UWED titled Discourse via Interpreting took place on the 15 of December 2016. According to the set tradition the conference had been attended by students and teachers of about 10 universities of Tashkent. Students’ reports presented in the course of the event touched upon various aspects and subtleties of interpreting. A number of students of TCI UWED present at this conference shared their views on the experience they gained while interpreting for the events which took place at different sites of our country. The observations made by these students aroused great interest of the audience. The participants of the conference asked a lot of questions concerning practical experience of these students. The way the students were able to answer the questions clearly showed that they were able to internalize both practical skills and theoretical knowledge of the profession.
Rector of UWED A. Jumanov called on all the participants to study more than two foreign languages. He has pointed out the high achievements of TCI in the realm of English. He suggested to include into TCI UWED curriculum study of popular languages of Europe and Asia.
In his welcoming speech Director of TCI UWED prof. Samadov underlined the importance of conferences of this sort. He said that in spite of the need for interpreters in this country training of interpreters still remains to be a problem.
Representative of British Council Ms E.Sheyhametova highly appreciated the work of student- interpreters functioning in the interpreting booth for this conference. Further on she familiarized the participants of the conference with the British Council’s projects on education in Uzbekistan.
Students and teachers from USWLU, NUU named after M.Ulugbek and other universities made interesting reports and comments concerning the issues discussed at this conference. According to the tradition of TCI UWED the conference had been conducted in the English language.
On the 4 October 2016 students of the Training Center for Interpreters of UWED had again hosted the International Translation Day celebration. This year International Federation of Translators offered the following slogan for the day – “Translation and Interpreting: Connecting Worlds. TCI and the administration of the University carried out a big scale preparation to celebrate this holiday. Invitations to take part in the holiday had been sent to several international organizations accredited in RU, representatives of more than 10 universities of Tashkent as well as to professional interpreters operating in this country.
In his welcoming speech rector of UWED J. Jumanov pointed out a growing need for training interpreters in our country. He said that Uzbekistan has a high profile in the world and similar to diplomats, politicians, sportsmen and representatives of other professions interpreters are seriously contributing into the growing image of our country.
Deputy Director of British Council J. Gulyamova underlined the importance of training interpreters at this stage of international relations development. She expressed hope that UWED will stick to the tendency of bringing together universities of Tashkent, sharing its experience with them and holding together the joint events of this sort.
TCI UWED alumni told the audience how much they appreciated the skills and general knowledge they received in the course of studies at TCI UWED. They expressed their gratitude to the UWED for helping them to achieve feasible results in their work.
Director of TCI UWED prof.Samadov called the students not only to study foreign languages but to acquire interpretation and translation skills too. He said that interpreters are really instrumental to help to unite people of different nationalities and cultures.
Participants of the holiday enjoyed a versatile program of the event which was presented in a well decorated conference-hall of the university. UWED students as well as students of other universities of Tashkent demonstrated their talents turning the event into a real feast. Rock- Ambassador, a newly born musical band of UWED, became a real highlight of the holiday. At the end of the celebration all participants of the holiday joined together to sing Babel Tower – anthem of TCI UWED. According to TCI UWED tradition the event had been held in English.
05.14 2106 has become a memorable day for the TCI UWED and students from four other Tashkent universities. 5’0 clock tea party has been set up by the TCI UWED as one more social event where students of different universities could communicate in English, demonstrate their talents and have fun. The event turned into a real students’ talents show. The program included songs, recitation of poems and pieces of prose various contests, parodies and what not, including a small exposition of embroidery and home made bakery. Participants used a lot of creativity to depict involved profession of an interpreter in sketches, contests and role games.
TCI UWED sticks to its tradition of inviting students from other higher educational institutions of Tashkent to its various events. These events range from annual scientific conferences devoted to the issues of interpretation, conferences devoted to the expansion of background knowledge to International Translation Day celebration.
A good point to mention while describing 5’Oclock party is participation of TCI UWED alumni. The graduates told students about their present jobs, shared their experience with students and actively participated in different parts of the event’s program.
12.23.2015 TCI UWED has conducted its annual students’ scientific-practical conference. This time the theme of the conference was The Art of Communication. Students of more than 15 universities of Tashkent signed in to participate in the conference.
In his opening speech the Rector of UWED Dr.Jumanov specifically outlined the importance of holding events of this order. He underlined that conferences conducted in English and simultaneously interpreted into other languages give the students an excellent opportunity to get ready for their future professional activity. “As for the theme of the conference” he said, “It deserves studying not only in the limits of the present conference but much wider: at the lessons, students’ societies and various discussion clubs”.
In his welcoming speech TCI UWED Director prof. Samadov underlined that the role of communication is growing in all aspects of human interrelationship. He added that the topic under discussion is important from the point of view of cross cultural communication and is of particular interest to future diplomats and interpreters.
The students who contributed their reports for the conference were granted Certificates of Participation and published proceedings of this conference.
On 2nd of October 2015, TCI UWED hosted a celebration of the International Translation day. Students and teachers of nine Universities of Tashkent, alumni of TCI UWED as well as TCI UWED partners from UNDP, KOICA and British Council were invited to participate in the event.
Rector of the UWED A. Djumanov and other speakers of the holiday pointed out the growing role of interpreters in the modern world. Seven years of training interpreters at TCI UWED made possible to gain good experience and allowed TCI UWED students successfully function as interpreters in different events taking place at MFA Uz, many state and international organizations in this country.
The program of the celebration included songs and dances of different nations, interesting scenes acted out by the TCI UWED students depicting involved life of interpreters and many other things. At the end of the celebration the participants of the event decided to send welcome greetings to their colleagues in different parts of the world.
On 2 October, 2015 at 14:30, in the premises of UWED big conference hall, TCI UWED is celebrating the International Translation Day. The celebration program includes interesting sketches, depicting an involved life of interpreters, songs and dances of the peoples of the world, quizzes, speeches of the University leaders and representatives of international organizations as well as true stories of professional conference interpreters. Music bands will sing popular songs, TCI UWED students are preparing interesting presentations and scenes to be acted out in the course of the celebration. You’ll be able to see all kinds of pictures and photos, drawings and stands demonstrating the work of interpreters.
We invite students and teachers of nine Tashkent Universities, mass media people, representatives of MFA, several International organizations and alumni of TCI UWED.

From 14 to 19 September 2015, TCI UWED was hosting a training for teachers of interpreting on strengthening the competency of the interpretation education. Dr Nadezhda Kim from Hankuk University of Seoul conducted this training in the premises of the interpreting suite of TCI UWED. The program of the training included theoretical and practical aspects of interpreting and was focused on enhancing capability of UWED teachers to train students and colleagues from other Universities of Uzbekistan interested in launching a similar program. Modern equipment of the interpreting suite had been donated to UWED by KOICA this summer. Sponsored by KOICA teachers of UWED had a chance to visit Hankuk University to be introduced to the system of interpreter training at that University.
