The program took place at the Graduate School of Interpreters and Translators (GSIT) at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Seoul, South Korea) from September 12 up to 26, 2014. It was organized and sponsored by KOICA (Korean International Cooperation Agency).
9 teachers (Bakhodir Samadov, Yelena Borisova, Anakhita Narzillayeva, Dilfuza Abbasova, Dilfuza Tashpulatova, Alisher Khamidov, Djamilya Abduganiyeva, Dilfuza Inamova, Gulnaz Kurbanazarova) from two above mentioned Universities participated in the program.
The GSIT was founded in 1979 and 78 students were enrolled in for the first time. In May, 2004 the GSIT became the member of the CIUTI (the French abbreviation for the International Association of Institutes and Universities with Programs for Interpreters and Translators).
During the lectures we were familiarized with culture, lifestyle, history, linguistic and interpretation environment as well as academic activities of South Korea. Outstanding simultaneous interpreters and professors of the University gave talks on the issues of translation and interpretation.
I’d like to point out that the English language has been #1 in South Korea since 1945. Besides, English has been #1 tool for success.
At the end of the program we were advised on a number of things to be carried out in Uzbekistan in the nearest future. They were as follows:
- Set up interpreting school(s) with good facilities & equipment;
- Prepare early national accreditation system. For instance, Australia’s NAATI, Canada’s Translation Bureau etc.
- Unite eligible interpreters in solidarity.
We think that our colleagues at HUFS are right. Our interpreters and students of interpretation schools in Uzbekistan should unite and have close friendly relations. It will be possible if various seminars, conferences and debates are organized in those Universities and institutes.
All the participants of the program were awarded with the certificates of GSIT, HUFS.
